It all started when the goats went crazy in Ethiopia…
A herder named Kaldi noticed his goats became unusually energetic after eating red berries from a wild bush. Curious, he tried them himself and felt a burst of energy. He brought the berries to a monastery, where monks found they helped them stay awake during prayers.
Those berries came from the Coffea arabica plant, native to Ethiopia’s highlands. From there, coffee spread to Yemen, then across the world.
So, the global coffee story began—with a few dancing goats and the curious taste of wild Ethiopian beans.
